Nattokinase 30:1
Why Natto Is Super Healthy and Nutritious
Natto is a traditional Japanese dish consisting of fermented soybeans and characterized by a slimy, sticky and stringy texture. It has many nutritional benefits.
While few people in the Western world have heard of natto, it’s very popular in Japan.
This fermented food has a unique consistency and surprising smell. In fact, many say it’s an acquired taste. However, you shouldn’t be deterred by this.
Natto is incredibly nutritious and linked to various health benefits, which range from stronger bones to a healthier heart and immune system.
It is rich in several nutrients
Natto is super nutritious. It contains good levels of many nutrients that are important for optimal health. A 3.5-ounce (100-gram) portion provides the following :

Natto also contains smaller amounts of vitamin B6, folate and pantothenic acid, as well as antioxidants and other beneficial plant compounds.
Natto is especially nutritious because its soybeans undergo a process of fermentation, which creates conditions that promote the growth of probiotics.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that provide a wide range of health benefits. One such benefit includes making foods more digestible, which makes it easier for your gut to absorb their nutrients.
This is one reason why natto is considered more nutritious than boiled soybeans.
Natto also contains fewer antinutrients and more beneficial plant compounds and enzymes than non-fermented soybeans.
It promotes heart health Reduces Blood Clotting
Natto may also contribute to a healthier heart.
That’s partly because it contains fiber, which can help reduce cholesterol levels .
Furthermore, natto fermentation produces nattokinase, a type of enzyme that helps dissolve blood clots. It seems to be especially concentrated in the “stringy portion” of natto .
Moreover, Japanese researchers report that natto may help lower blood pressure by inactivating angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which helps control blood pressure.
In fact, several studies show that nattokinase supplements reduced blood pressure by around 3–5.5 mmHg in participants with initial blood pressure values of 130/90 mmHg or higher.
Finally, in addition to strengthening your bones, the vitamin K2 in natto may help prevent calcium deposits from accumulating in your arteries, although research is mixed .
In one study, regular intake of vitamin K2-rich foods was linked to a 57% lower risk of dying from heart disease.
In another study including only women, every 10 mcg of vitamin K2 consumed per day was linked to a 9% reduction in heart disease risk.
For reference, natto is estimated to contain around 1.1 mg of vitamin K2 per 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving.
Rich in Vitamin K
One of the main reasons that natto is so good for you is because it is rich in vitamin K. In fact, the Department of Public Health reports that it contains 100 times more vitamin K2 than cheese!
Vitamin K2 is important because, according to the National Institutes of Health, it’s considered a key component in maintaining the bone mineral density of postmenopausal women suffering from osteoporosis. This is especially good news for vegetarians and vegans because natto is one of the few plant-based sources of vitamin K2.
Having a higher intake of vitamin K2 is associated with lower risk of heart disease, artery calcification and death. Vitamin K2 also supports bone health by increasing bone mass and slowing bone loss that occurs over time.
Natto may strengthen your immune system
Natto contains several nutrients that may help strengthen your immune system.
To begin with, probiotic-rich foods such as natto contribute to a healthy gut flora. In turn, a healthy gut flora helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and may even boost your production of natural antibodies.
Moreover, probiotics further reduce the risk of infection and may help you recover faster if you do get sick.
In one study, elderly people were provided 2 billion CFU of B. subtilis — the probiotic strain found in natto — or a placebo. Those given the probiotic strain were 55% less likely to suffer from a respiratory infection over the four-month study period.
What’s more, a probiotic-rich diet may also reduce the likelihood of needing antibiotics to recover from an infection by around 33%.
In addition to its high probiotic content, natto is rich in vitamin C, iron, zinc, selenium and copper, all of which play important roles in immune function.
Side Effects
Natto is a traditional Japanese food for thousands of years. There were no side effects with nattokinase in several clinical trials.
Based on this information, side effects from nattokinase seem to be rare.

This is my third bag of natto from this seller. I add a tablespoon to my coffee in the morning and it gives it a thick nutty taste which I enjoy. I am taking it for the vitamin K bone benefits.

It taste like it should… Bad. That’s what natto is, it’s an acquired taste. But the benefits is outstanding. It’s worth it….

I tried the traditional fermented soybeans. The taste and sliminess was too gross for me to adapt to. So I tried K2 capsules. They caused lower abdominal pain for me. So then I decided to try this product. It tastes good! I add one heaping teaspoon to a serving of pureed pinto beans along with several shots of Texas Pete. I just barely stir in the natto because I enjoy the cheesy taste of the little bits of natto powder. I bet it will be great with black beans too.

Quick and accurate fulfillment. Haven’t tried product yet, so don’t have an opinion as to quality yet.

I have Peripheral Artery Disease and take this daily for two reasons: The nattokinase dissolves fibrin (blood clots) and the Vitamin K2 channels the blood calcium away from depositing in the arteries, and directs it to the bones where it is needed. My doctor recommend a daily baby aspirin to prevent blood clots, but this is a much healthier and more natural way to prevent blood clots. I dissolve one level teaspon in a small amount of V8 juice, along with a half teaspoon of fermented garlic extract (good for the heart, blood pressure and arteries). Stir it up and drink it down in a few swallows. I can’t say it tastes great, but it’s not that bad and I’ve gotten used to it so I don’t mind the taste a bit.

I am relatively new to natto – just started eating it in powdered form, and have not tried it fresh. The “string-y” slimy textures simply are repulsive to me – so, I ordered it in powder. I have to say, I love the taste of it, and have been adding about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of it to whatever I am eating for dinner – my one meal of the day.
So far, it has been added to wild rice, pizza, vegetables, dips – just whatever I am eating. I am consuming it for my health, and don’t know what effect it is having on THAT, but I have noticed that my hair and fingernails are growing at a phenomenal rate. Have to trim my bangs – on my almost 67-yr. old head – once or twice a week, and trim my fingernails at least once a week. It must be doing my body good!

I gave this 5 stars for flavor not because it’s delicious because it’s not. It’s a very “acquired taste”. It’s a fermented product so we should not expect it to taste like our favorite pastry. As far as effectiveness goes, I love this stuff! Anyone who has been on TRT long term is aware of elevated hematocrit. Well, THIS stuff helps me in that department big time. My hematocrit would float up to ~53% but since I’ve been taking ½ tsp of this natto in the morning it’s been great. I took a reading last Tuesday and it was 48%. Not bad. I also believe it helps keep my BP down too since it has anti fibrin type capability. This is definitely a keeper for me.

Suggested by a user of nattokinase to try this supplement before I try a script. . . I’m happy with the results. And no nasty side effects.

This is the only Natto I have tried so I don’t know how it compares. But since I have started using my blood pressure has dropped and I have stopped taking my blood pressure medication. I monitor my pressure closely and so will start my medication again if needed. What I like about this Natto is that it is freeze dried and so keeps for a long time and is cheaper than fresh Natto. I’ve also read that the active ingredient in Natto is great for long COVID and although I don’t have long COVID (to my knowledge) it is probably good for many of us that have had COVID and/or the shots. So this is a healthy product in general and likely even more so in these times after COVID.

Purchased a second time. This is natto, other reviews will tell you why to take it. I take a 1/4 teaspoon most days. Does it work? Heck if I know.
It tastes like nasty fungus dirt. I mix it in EmergenC and Airborne with a tiny power whisk and barely notice. It doesn’t want to mix, with a spoon it would be a chore.
Quantity and price is good, a little goes a long way. If you’re new to natto, this is a good place to start.
5 stars

I am no expert on natto but I have used it in the past and this seems very good. I just use 1/2 a teaspoon in a tiny bit of water and make a paste and eat it like that. I know it’s strange but I just love the taste and would happily eat lots of it, but that seems like a bad idea…

Very good. I agree with the reviewer who noted about its mild taste. It’s a bit pleasant if I may say – a little bit nutty. Great way to have Natto without having to eat fresh natto

I love strong flavors, and this powdered natto is no exception. I can eat it right off the spoon. Been mixing it with olive oil and using as a spread on toast. If you like miso paste, marmite, etc, you’ll like this.

Good service.

Very happy I found this product. As others have noted, the taste is actually quite pleasant, if you use it correctly. What works best for me is to mix it with preferably thick, strong-flavored sauces (tomato sauces, mustards, cheese/vegan cheese sauces, soy/coconut aminos) or dry seasonings (eg furikake with nori and sesame). Condiments that have umami flavored components seem to work the best. The condiments don’t just mask the natto taste, this natto powder actually improves and amplifies the flavor. It’s especially great over rice. I think if you use a little bit with every meal, it will equal to a medicinal daily dose, which I believe is 1 – 2 tsp a day.
If you rely on this product or are thinking about getting it, and are curious about real natto…. I would recommend you curb your curiousity and stay away, because it might make using this difficult to use by association. The “problem” with natto, unless you grew up with it, is not so much the flavor, but that it’s accompanied by a wet dish rag smell, and a very challenging texture. If you start to associate the flavor of this product with real natto, you might have a harder time using this. Otherwise it’s kind of amazing and delicious.

In the morning I make a drink of chicken bullion, collagen, tumeric, black pepper, cayenne, 2 D3 & K2 softgels and now I add a tsp. of natto powder. much better than the natto in the little styrofoam boxes. Really quite good.

I thought this was a great product. It had all the qualities of fresh natto without all the chemicals that usually come with it in asian stores. My body liked it a lot too.

I add this natto to my daily salad, smoothie.
The taste is pleasant. Will order more!

I consume this every day — part of a morning juicing routine. The flavor — well — it’s from Natto — and you know what Natto is — the aroma and flavor are secondary. The availability of the enzyme has been verified (yes- I checked = I have that capability at my disposal) and because I need to consume it every day – this is the most convenient presentation.

The taste of natto is labelled unpleasant in the West and unfairly. Like a good fermented cheese from France it is somewhat pungent but very pleasant once you set your cultural bias aside. The thing is, if you want to get medicinal levels of Vitamin K2 in your diet you are going to have to resort to natto. The good reseach coming out of Japan use 5mg to 45mg to get the beneficial results. In the USA the average pill size is 100 microgram. You have to take 10 pills to get 1 mg. You have to take 50 pills to get 5mg and 450 pills to get 45mg! Natto is nature’s most concentrated source of Vit. K2. This brand is particularly pleasant. I would encouage the manufacturer to attach an English label to the product to give a rough estimate of the Vit K2 level per teaspoon. I’ve been taking 2 tsp. per day with much improved sleep.

I’ve never had natto before and despite all the negative reactions it sometimes gets, I bought it to decide for myself. What a wonderful surprise! It smells absolutely delicious. It has a nutty aroma, reminds me of roasted dandelion root or chicory (well, they are relatives so that makes sense). I sprinkled it on my food and found the taste to be mild and slightly herbal. Very happy I decided to try this. 🙂

It’s real Nattokinase. The taste is good. But the zip doesn’t close very well over the time so you can transfer it into another zip bag. It also works fine.

After trying several different supplements of nattokinase I gave up. There must be no quality control. I took one capsule apart and it looked and tasted like sugar. I was having success initially with nattokinase to lower blood pressure. On my second bottle my blood pressure went back up. Tried several different brands.
Decided to try this Natto Powder ! I will never go back to the pills. This is the best and you can be sure it is natto by the taste. Blood pressure back down to 118/74. Am taking 1/2 teaspoon once in a.m. once in p.m.

Excellent quality natto powder loaded with Nattokinase, Bacillus subtilis, and Vitamin K2. Pleasant taste I liken to a nutty nacho cheese flavor. Will order again!!!

I made mistake of using it to buffer my coffee. Hot liquid kills enzymes. Best to take in cold coffee or on top of yogurt .

I purchased this for its anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve been battling a severe hip staph infection for months and wanted to find something for the inflammation besides what the doctor prescribed for pain because the tiredness and other side affects were getting to me.
I mix this product with my own golden milk blend, MSM and boswellia and drink it twice a day along with a sugar free drink single to tame the flavors.
I’ve noticed a marked improvement in my pain and inflammation and am now down to one pain pill at bedtime. This actually smells pleasant and is easy to take. I reccomend it!

I mix the powder with nori furikake and put it on rice and egg whites mix. I put enough so that the natto powder when activated by moisture becomes a little “stringy” like actual natto. The flavor is authentic natto!

Very yummy!
I add it to my organic coconut powder and use my frother to mix it up, then I add a little bit of water to get the milky and creamy consistency that I like and then:
Bottom’s Up!
Very yummy combination.
